"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." - Wayne Gretzky

You've established your business or perhaps have a fresh start with a rebrand; maybe you even built a swanky website to match all the new opportunities in your future.

But here's the question - are you getting enough eyeballs on your website? In the digital realm, website traffic isn't just a number. It's the lifeblood that can make or break your business. This post talks about how to get more traffic, and therefore, more conversions. Let’s grow!

Website Traffic and Conversions

Website traffic is an integral part of your online success, but why exactly does it matter? Well, no traffic means no customers. Okay, fewer customers. The more visitors you have on your website, the more opportunities you have to close the sale.

But that's not all. More traffic also means more data. It allows you to analyze your audience better, understand their behavior, and refine your marketing strategies.

In short, traffic is the first step towards building an online empire.

Of course, more traffic alone doesn't guarantee more business. Imagine hosting a party where no one dances. Disappointing, right? Similarly, getting people to your website is half the battle. You also need to convert these visitors into customers and from there into a squad of brand ambassadors.

The Many Types of Web Traffic

Website traffic isn't a one-size-fits-all concept. Different traffic sources can bring in different kinds of visitors. Understanding these types can help you tailor your strategies and maximize your ROI.

Direct Traffic: They have to know you, to know you. These people have met you or have heard of you before – they have a direct line to the business. This reflects your efforts to brand the company via networking, partnerships, community involvement, etc.

Paid Traffic: This involves driving visitors to your site through paid advertising, like Google Ads or social media ads. The word ‘sponsored’ should come to mind.

While it can be an excellent way to bring in a targeted audience quickly, it can also be pricey if you don’t have the right foundation in place. (i.e., a fast-loading, quality-looking website with the phone number readily available; otherwise, the prospect will bounce, and you’ll get charged for the click.)

Organic Traffic: These visitors find you through search engines; they typically don’t already know the brand. Organic traffic usually requires solid SEO strategies, but it can be a cost-effective way to attract a steady stream of visitors over time.

It's like word-of-mouth for the digital age. Since they are searching for what you do/offer, they are more likely to convert into a client – eventually. They could be at the very start of consideration and just starting to research options. This traffic is a great way to start building a new relationship.

Referral Traffic: This traffic comes from other websites linking back to you. It's a digital nod of approval.  The right partnerships can give you a substantial referral traffic boost.

That said, this channel is also known for those dreaded ‘bots’ so look at the amount of time these visits average to make sure they are actual people and not spammers/would-be hackers.

Social Media Traffic: Social media can be a goldmine of website traffic. It allows you to tap into the vast user bases of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or Twitter.

The Quest for Quality Traffic

Not all traffic is created equal. For instance, a thousand random visitors might not be as valuable as a hundred visitors who are genuinely interested in what you offer. This is where qualified traffic comes into play.

Qualified traffic refers to visitors who are more likely to become customers. By focusing on quality traffic, you ensure your marketing efforts aren't going to waste. You're attracting people who want what you've got, and that's a powerful position to be in.

Turning Traffic into Treasure: The Art of Conversion

Having a steady stream of quality traffic is fantastic, but turning those visitors into customers? Now, that's where the magic happens!

Conversion optimization involves tweaking your website and sales strategies to maximize the number of visitors who complete a desired action, whether it's making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or filling out a contact form.

A well-thought-out conversion strategy helps your business get the most bang for your marketing buck. It transforms your website into a 24/7 salesperson, turning visitors into customers and boosting your bottom line.
