Searching for the Best: Marketing Tips for Lawyers

Law firms are one of the most competitive spaces in the market today, and with the number of users using the web to get information, it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd when marketing a law firm. People want to know that you are the best lawyer for their needs; therefore, trust (quickly) is key for attorneys.

Around here, we love law firms and being online ‘ attorneys’. Between Google, Facebook, SEO, PPC, and social media marketing, there are many ways to market your law firm. But where should you start?  Scroll down for six easy lawyer-focused marketing tips to help law firms meet their next client...

Know Your Target Market

“What kinds of clients do I want?” While some attorneys focus on criminal defense and defending DUI arrests, while others focus on car accidents, slip-and-falls, and other personal injury claims.

You likely already have a niche and practice a specific kind of law, so it should be easy to figure out what kinds of clients that you want to focus on.   If a firm is focused on estate planning, they will need to use a different tone in their marketing than an attorney that works on business law cases.

Regardless, always use a strong call to action so your prospective client can reach you whether they are on your social media, your website, or your blog.

Create a Social Media Presence

Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Google My Business, Linked In, and Twitter can be beneficial to market your law firm.   Cater your content to your social audience and what’s new in your field of law. Just like a billboard, social media serves as direct brand recognition for your followers. While people might scroll past your post or ad on social media, your name will jump out to them because they recognize it when they are searching later.

Keep your social presence active with a post a least twice a week. Post testimonials, short tip videos, or case results. You can also set a Google Alert for your field and/or law firm, then share something new on your channels from there each week.

Incorporate Videos

Videos are an easy way and interactive way to reach your target audience. Do not be intimidated by videos! You probably have a backlog of great content that you can talk about on camera about dog bite lawsuits or how to negotiate a DUI case and then promote it on social media or your blog.

Videos are easily transcribed which can help with SEO and are LOVED by Google if they are optimized properly. Embed the video in your article so that people can read and watch you talk about your field of law.  Many of our attorney clients tell us that their videos are the reason prospective clients are significantly more likely to sign for representation.

Create Engaging Content and Promote It

If you want to improve your law firm’s online visibility, traffic, and relevancy, it will help to answer the questions that you are asked daily from clients. Create evergreen content that users can find whenever they need legal advice.

Questions your law firm could answer:

How much of a settlement can I get if I am injured?

What happens if I am arrested for a DUI?

How much does a lawyer cost?

New Partnership Agreements: What does our business need?

Who should be included in my will?

Can I sue if a dog bit me?

To enhance user interaction, answer questions that are related to the practice areas that you want to target.  These questions answered in a blog, or on an FAQ page on your website. Then, can be promoted on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, but LinkedIn has been known to offer the most immediate results for law firms.

Build Relationships with Clients

Whether you are in a small town or a large city, business is still based on relationships. Satisfied law clients will come back if needed, and they will also recommend your services to friends and family.   While a website is essential to promote your law firm and illustrate credibility, relationships with clients are key to a law firm’s success.

Ask your clients, “What is your greatest concern?” This allows you to encourage them that you can help.   When dealing with a case, trial, or negotiation, always let your client know that his or her case is important to you and that you will do everything in your power to advocate for them. This will leave a strong, positive impression on your client regardless of the outcome.

Also, be ready to help anyone that comes through your door, whether you can help them or not. This is where partners with other reputable lawyers is key.

Focus on Referrals and Word-Of-Mouth

In any business, referrals and word-of-mouth are key components to success. Past clients are one of the best sources for new clients in law firms. Not only will you get referrals from past clients but other lawyers in your network, which is why it is important to create and foster relationships with other lawyers in your city.

Business is all about relationships, and with a great referral network, new clients will not only keep coming, but they will multiply. When focusing on referrals, categorize where they are coming from and develop relationships with the referral sources. Reach out to thank them and recognize their contribution to your success.

Tip: Online reviews can be part of a referral or word-of-mouth strategy. Foster positive reviews and ask clients to leave testimonials or reviews on your website.
