At Charisma, we’re well-known for our content writing. But you may not know that we’re a full-service marketing and advertising design firm. Some of our FAVORITE projects that we do - outside content writing – are branding related.

Branding creates emotional responses. We love the opportunities to curate corporate identities, create brochures, write for new websites- that kind of thing. Anything and everything we can do to set a new brand up right or give one a fresh new start.

Of course, we want to share a few of our recent projects too. You’ll see them throughout this article while learning the keys to branding along the way. Ready? Let’s dive in!

Creating a New Branded Look

Branding begins with a visual look. Due to our short attention spans, the visuals are a large piece of the work to create a brand that draws people in. Quickly.

When starting out, you obviously need to invest in creating a fantastic brand identity. But often Charisma is called in for brands that have been in business for a few plus years, and they need a revamp of the logo and collateral. When done right, trust us, client’s will notice that your content visually has changed. Reinvigorating engagement, referrals, and even trust in the company.

Why Branding is Important

What branding can do for a business is actually influence the decisions that people make when they are deciding whether or not to purchase from one company or another. If you’re in a competitive industry, then you need a consistent brand identity. Your brand identity can really influence the decisions of the consumer, relaying your trust and credibility - ultimately, can help grow your business.

One of the other key aspects is that branding creates loyalty. The goal isn’t to create a customer that will just buy once but repeat customers; generating clients who refer others to your business. This gives you a solid competitive advantage.

Benefits of Branding to a Business

You can create a massive brand presence & massive emotional attachment, resulting in RAVING brand ambassadors. That’s the best benefit we can think of.

The average business owner or employee may oftentimes, may slap the letters on or resize a logo, we’ve even seen all new colors used. They need the flyer, like yesterday...

But when you do that, it’s almost like they’ve created their own version of the logo. How would you feel if one of your clients decided to change your logo, your business? For whatever reason they want. That would make it very difficult to run a sustainable business. And it is a consistent challenge you have if we don’t use your brand consistently.

It’s important that the people who are potential customers understand the real brand force that is behind your particular business. Do people know, like, and trust your company?

Very often, once companies get a strong brand, you will see that people get very strongly attached to them (think Coke vs. Pepsi). There are all kinds of influences it can show on the course of an organization. But at its heart, your brand is what creates a continuously great impression.

How Strong Branding Builds Companies

The branding can really help because strong branding attracts good quality clientele because they can see/fee; the quality that you exude. Remember: perception is reality.

Again, the goal with branding is to give prospective clients confidence and credibility. You want a recognizable, consistent presence. Often, we see no consistency in the logo, colors, fonts, etc. everything is doing something different. People might have no idea you’re the same company if they didn’t know any better.

One of the big key points for a successful company, is to have the same visual look across all channels. Use (and stick to) guidelines so that it will be implemented properly. This is even more important if you took the time and money to invest in a trademark. We are only attorneys online, but we asked specialists in the field, and you can’t maintain a trademark unless you have consistent application of it.

Tips to Design a Great Brand

  • Keep your target audience or niche in mind. Always.
  • Start-ups: Start with colors you love. Chances are if you love them, so will your client. They will likely know you or have been referred.
  • Have the color, then a dark and/or light version in your brand guidelines. This will give you a consistently great look no matter which you choose later.
  • If you’re in the naming stage of your new venture or rebrand, ask a few people their immediate feelings on the company name. This may help you find mispronunciations or confusion from those closest to you. Meaning you may need to keep searching for the best brand name.
  • For logos, have at least 3 versions: full, stacked, and icon only. (Best to have in full color and white/black/deep gray only too.)
  • Remember: the key to creating a strong brand is consistency! Today, you must update your audience regularly with a consistent content style & message.
