I get it, finding compelling topics and inspiration for your blog can be rough. But I promise you there is always something you can write about!
From your business, topics you care about, and places you’ve traveled can all be great topics to post about to keep things fresh on your blog. The caveat is to make sure that what you take the time to write will have a positive impact by being something your target audience will care about. If they aren’t going to see value in what you post, then your time is better spent elsewhere instead of trying to grasp at straws.
Today, I’ll share 8 of my favorite tips to find inspiration for your blog. From frequently asked questions from clients, your take on industry news, answers complex questions, explaining industry terms or acronyms, or even what’s going on at your business the possibilities are truly endless.
Blogging Tip #1: Review your keyword and key phrase research
You’ve taken the time to create a search engine optimization strategy to find the keywords and phrases pertinent to your business. I like to keep a long list (in this respect, I keep it old school in excel) and have a list of hundreds of words and phrases on hand that you want to rank on Google for.
This is a great place to start and see if a word stands out to you for a possible blog topic. Look at your long tail keyword phrases and google your competition. Are there recent blog posts? Are they well-written? Can you take a different spin on it to make it better? If so, then voila instant inspiration for your blog.
Blogging Tip #2: Keep a running list of ideas
Always keep a list of ideas for your blog. They honestly don’t even need to be arguably good ideas right now, you can-and will-tweak them later. Keep the list on your phone, keep an excel sheet or Google doc, or even carry a small notebook with you.
Every time you think of a good idea, capture it by writing it down so you don’t lose it! These could be your best source of content ideas when you need more inspiration for your blog.
Blogging Tip #3: Search online and sign up for newsletters
Browse online to find fresh material. Reading other people’s articles can be a great inspiration for your blog. Sign up for newsletters from industry leaders or people you respect to get updates in your inbox to help get your inspired for your own work (shameless plug, sign up my newsletter).
You can also read blog posts from people you admire. It’s also great to check Pinterest for images of content ideas for your blog; keep a secret board that you can refer easily later. These tips could help you find inspiration for your blog.
Blogging Tip #4: Set up Google Alerts
Don’t have time to do a Google search? Have the content come directly to your inbox, thanks to Google Alerts. You can set up incremental reports on topics or keywords that are pertinent to your industry to get blog inspiration! Periodic Google alerts can be a great source of content ideas to add to your list for future content marketing.
Blogging Tip #5: Google your most successful posts
Your most popular posts can be great inspiration for new blog material. Check analytics the see what pages are the most visited on your blog. Then you can write something similar to that with additional information, provide another angle, or even provide an update if the information is a little outdated.
Blogging Tip #6: Check for Gaps
Just like your product fills a need on the market so should your content! Looking through your old posts for content gaps may serve as great inspiration for your next blog post. If you notice that there are topics you haven’t covered in a while, then use that as a source of inspiration.
Blogging Tip #7: Look at your FAQs
Your FAQs are asked for a reason so if your target customer is looking for that information, then expand upon it on your blog. This will give you great content that you can direct prospects too for more information that can help them make a purchase with you. See what questions you can expand on with additional information that your target audience will care about.
Blogging Tip #8: Get out of the office
Up your blog inspiration and get outside. Take a walk around your office and see what catches your eye. I’m planning a new blog series based on my customer experiences in Tampa. Sometimes a change of scenery can make all the difference! I like to keep my phone on hand to jot something down and capture the inspiration as soon as it strikes otherwise you could lose out on a great idea.
