Templated “Meme” Formats

Meme formats have been a thing on social media forever, but they’ve evolved quite a lot from silly pictures with that bold white text. Now, memes simply mean jokes using other media trends. For example, a celebrity might do something funny, and the clip gets reused and reinterpreted to tell new jokes.

So far in 2023, we've seen a lot more businesses using these meme templates to create videos that grab the attention of users and drive engagement. The key to success is making sure that the content is relatable and funny to your audience.

With the rise of apps like CapCut, these templates can be easily recreated as the trends take off online.

User-Generated Content (UGC)

User-generated content (UGC) is any content created by users that promotes a brand or product. In 2023, we expect to see more businesses utilizing UGC to build brand awareness and increase engagement.

UGC is powerful because it comes from real people who are passionate about your brand. Brands can encourage customers to create content by running contests, using hashtags, or featuring their content on their social media pages. This strategy not only boosts engagement but also creates a sense of community around your brand.

Self-Aware Content

Marketing companies usually exist in the shadows, but now is our time to ✨ shine ✨.

We’ve been seeing many more brands posting from the perspective of the marketing company themselves, or the brand “behind the scenes”. This kind of self-aware content really humanizes the brand and gives the viewers a reason to follow the page- even if they don’t care much about the company behind the content.

Here’s an example > Pedro Pascal Meme Takes Over Marketing TikTok

Doing this makes the content seem less like an advertisement, and more like a fellow human just trying to make a good post, i.e.: what everyone else is posting online.

Social media is entertainment for people, and we all prefer to skip the ads when watching our favorite shows.

Getting Weird with It

Now this one is a bit harder to explain why it works, but it just does.

In addition to regular posts and updates, we’ve seen big brands find major success by posting something that... makes no sense? The process goes like this:

  1. Grab attention from the viewer with a confusing video/post
  1. The viewer sees that a company/brand is the one that posted it
  1. The viewer shares it with their friends which promotes conversation
  1. These shares boost the post in the algorithm more, snowballing the engagement

As we said, it’s not so easy to describe these videos, but here’s the post we saw that made us write this section.

It’s safe to say this is NOT meant for every company; but with 4.5 MILLION views and 500,000 likes, this is the company’s best-performing social media post of all time.

YouTube Shorts

We expect to see more businesses utilizing this short-form video format to showcase their products and services in a creative and concise way. YouTube Shorts is the latest addition to the YouTube platform which capitalized on the trend on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

With the proposed ban on TikTok, it’s a good idea to try growing a following on YouTube Shorts while it’s still “early”.
